Continuing the adventures of the Penderwick sisters. In this volume, to fulfill the girls' mother's dying wish, their father agrees to go on a series of blind dates. The girls, anxious that he might find a replacement for their mother (and having heard bad step-parent experiences from friends), plot to find him the worst blind dates possible. At the same time, a colleague of Mr. Penderwick's - an attractive, kind, widowed mother of a young boy - moves in next door to the family. And she's great with the girls, and they really like her. Can you see where this is going? I could, but that didn't make the story any less charming. Rosalind, the eldest, has boy troubles, and Skye and Jane have school play troubles, and Batty (my favorite sister) has Bug Man troubles, but in the end (a beautiful ending, which - I'm not embarrassed to say - had me crying), everything works out.
