When I first picked up this up book I was a little skeptical. I thought that maybe the book would just play up the love story between Ophelia and Hamlet. And in the first part of the novel it does seem that Klein had just made Hamlet into Romeo and Juliet. However, once I read further I was pleasantly surprised at the direction of the novel and how Ophelia's character was developed. It delves into how Hamlet's quest for revenge impacts their relationship and adds interesting twists without being ridiculous. I think anyone who has enjoyed the original will find this interpretation quite interesting. As well, you do not need to have read Hamlet to enjoy it, anyone who likes historical fiction will be able to appreciate Ophelia.
