As a children's movie, its great; as an adaptation of a book, it quite loose (and in that sense bad). The songs are catchy and playful; the use of jazz music by the evil monkeys would surely be considered racist today. It felt like the movie ended too soon: what happens to the man-cub when he enters the village? How do the villagers react? I am surprised that there hasn't been any sequels to the movies telling of his youth and early manhood among humans.
