Death of a Maid

a Hamish Macbeth Mystery
Nov 28, 2013Sanrin rated this title 1.5 out of 5 stars
Glacially slow. Macbeth travels for a page or two to interview a witness or suspect, and the result is, "No, I didn't see anything." Core village values also seem inconsistent: in a small village, everybody knows everybody's business, and one of the secrets the blackmailer knew was about an extramarital affair. But then, Macbeth and a woman who turns out to be engaged jump into bed, and the next morning jovially part ways without a thought. After investigating the case, one would have thought Macbeth as a permanent resident would at least have worried about eventually being found out and the gossip.
