Not only is this a tremendous book with wonderful historical insights into the game of chess, but a rich odyssey of elegant thought. The ideal way to read this book, is to read it at the same time you read Iain Banks' great sci fi classic, "The Player of Games" - - together they allow the reader a cornucopia of insight and enlightenment on civilization then, now and in the future.
