Incredibly moving, I found NORTH COUNTRY to be one of those films that ignites you. You'll be so furious at the indignity that Josey Aimes and her fellow miners endure that you'll cry. It is a travesty that the simple act of making a living can humiliate you and endanger your life and well-being. No one should be subjected to the harassment those women experienced on the daily. The story is a simple, true one: a single mother leaves her abusive husband to raise her two kids alone, and faced with dwindling employment options, she follows her childhood friend Glory to the Minnesota mines, where she and a handful of others are breaking the gender barrier in that industry. Unbelievably outnumbered, there is no sister solidarity here, and each faces the realization that the most hazardous part of their job is their coworkers. The cast is the kind that you dream about: Charlize Theron, Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sean Bean, Jeremy Renner, Michelle Monaghan, Sissy Spacek, and Richard Jenkins. I don't know what else to say: this film has rendered me speechless. I highly recommend it.
