To Sir With Love is a 1967 film directed by James Clavell (Shogun) based on a book written by E.R. Braithwaite, first published 1959. Yes, I agree with some reviewers that this type of story has since been done ad nauseam, but I would like to point out that when choosing between an original and a copy, one should choose the original because it defines the genesis of the genre. This story was based on Braithwaite's life. What I found remarkable about this story is the meeting and meshing of two very different cultures. The 1960s US Civil Rights Movement advanced the education, employment, and housing prospects of the Negro (a term I have used respectfully for over 53 years). But in the UK, that advancement didn't begin until the Brixton Riots in the 80s, many years after the 1967 movie. This is a tale of a man marginalized by his skin colour teaching teens marginalized by their class to overcome their obstacles.
