Perhaps this series is trying to emulate Miss Fisher's Mysteries and if that's the case I would suggest that they try again. Neither the mood of the times, nor the dress is noteworthy and the attitudes and relationships are not reflective of the era either. Unfortunately, the acting and the dialogue nor plotting compensate for the viewing deficiencies. Altogether, viewers should definitely view the superior Fisher Mysteries or even the old black and white Avengers TV series with Emma Peel if you wish to see how some shows and actors can create mood even with weak scripts.

Great costumes, and sets, storyline not so much. The over the top acting is a little to much and seems to be a trademark.

Amusing, entertaining, lighter, period, private detective series! Great acting and beautiful period wardrobe! Fascinating stories and characters!
Worth seeing!
Miss Fisher devotees will probably enjoy this series, also!

Set in Toronto during the 1920s, it follows the city's only female private detective as she takes on the cases the police don't want or can't handle. From airplanes and booze running to American G-men, Communists and union busters, Frankie's fearless sense of adventure gets her into all kinds of trouble, but she always manages to find her way out. In a time of change and hopefulness, Frankie is a woman ahead of everyone. She's a new detective for a new world. But is the world ready for her?

This series started out flat for me and my partner, but did get better as the season went on. Perhaps we were expecting more of a stronger women's role and of better stories, since we have been fans of the Murdoch Mysteries, as they shared the same production company, Shaftesbury Films.
We like how both series do not stray from the Canadian setting of the times, however this series lacks some of the smartly connected historical Toronto backdrop character, compared to the MM series.
Hoping for continued stronger angles and story to come in the following episodes.
I had also been spoiled by the short lived series of Agent Carter, with Hayley Atwell, playing the smart and curageous Peggy Carter, appearing in the 2011, Captain American: The First Avenger.

Watched this series on CBC and loved it. Must see it again! Interesting story lines, good acting, upbeat tone, and fresh ideas. Nice to see women depicted in a favourable light for a change!
