I'd been on a long waitlist & it was worth the wait. J Chastain is so versatile in her characters. Good cast, well - played, but I had no clue what the game was about, so lost on all that lingo. I like Costner when he gets into the role (except for current TV role) he's not just a pretty-boy anymore. Fast times, fast living, not for the faint of heart. I leave that to the ignorants.

I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much out of this movie. I'd never even heard of it, but my boyfriend loves poker, so after reading the description, I figured I'd bring it home and watch it with him. It turned out to be an excellent movie and not at ALL what I'd expected. It's not suitable for young children because there's a pretty violent scene and some commentary, but I'd be okay with my 13-year-old watching it. (Your mileage may vary, of course.)

Considering it's based on a true story, that's what really makes it shine. If you like poker, especially Texas Hold'em, get this movie. You won't be sorry you did.

I loved this movie! I found it very different and fresh. It was pretty fast moving (particularly the dialogue) so I had to pause and think it through or rewind to hear it again in places, but well worth it. Based on true story and one of those wonderful that links back many incidents and resolves them with insight at the end.

I don't know much of the terminology of poker game; thus I find it difficult to follow sometimes.

Well done as a movie - although I'm told the movie does not do the book justice in terms of telling the whole story.

Great movie to add to the poker movie genre. Honestly best movie on the theme since Rounders. Molly Bloom is not played for sympathy and wow Kevin Costner should have won best supporting actor for his performance. Gives you the feel for life in the fast lane and the tragedy of wannabes trying to walk the walk.

A survey was taken a few years ago that asked 300 professionals one question, "What's the worst thing that can happen in sports?" Some people answered losing a game 7, and other people said getting swept in the 4. Some people said it was missing the world cup, and some Brazilians said it was losing to Argentina. Not just in the world cup. Anytime, ever in any contest. But one person answered that the worst thing that can happen in sports is 4th place at the Olympics.

(SOME SPOILERS!!!)

Molly Bloom is an aspiring Olympic gold medalist who, after a freak accident, chooses to take a break from training prior to going to law school. She takes two jobs, one of which leads to an opportunity she hadn't considered or prepared for. Molly's new boss runs a poker game, but not just ANY poker game. It's a game for the rich and famous, and it's her job to set it up, run it, and, of course, count the buy-ins.

One thing leads to another and Molly's boss turns out to be quite crooked. After being put in a bind, Molly decides to take the poker game into her own hands. She ups the ante (both literally and figuratively) and things are going well until Player X makes a dire mistake that Molly simply can't allow at her table.

One phone call is all it takes for Molly to be out of the game, and after two years, she's arrested for her connection to the Russian mob.

This movie will break your heart, make you laugh, and make you cry. Molly's character is witty, charming, and sarcastic - all my favorite qualities. The characters are well-developed, but I found the movie was a little slow in some spots. Four stars, and I will likely watch it again!
