There was a creepiness to parts of the story that I enjoyed but these moments didn’t advance, or really have much to do with, the actual plot. To me, this was poorly written and included minimal character or story development. Very disappointing.

This is the perfect book for lovers of atmospheric ghost stories. Set in a small town in Vermont, Fiona Barton is trying to figure out why someone wants to restore the creepy boarding school where her sister's body was found 20 years ago. With a great back story and a ghost that gave me chills, this was a fast-paced mystery perfect for a cold day.

the author writes well enough, but I could not get into the characters or the story. Returned it after 100 pages.

I LOVED this. I always enjoy St. James's books but this title is without a doubt my absolute favourite one. An addictive and ultra-atmospheric ghost story/mystery chock full of twists and turns. I could not put it down.

Murder, mayhem, and a bit of mystical. It's a story that engages and reads as light and entertaining.

Watch out for Mary Hand...don't let her in! Whispered from student to student at Idlewild Hall, scribbled in ancient text books, passed down from generation to generation, this chilling advice is worth following. After all, the terrifying woman in black who roams the grounds and buildings of this Vermont boarding school may be murderer...ghost or not. This creepy, suspenseful thriller gets high marks for atmosphere and the skillful blending of past and present.

This is an engaging supernatural thriller and murder mystery all rolled into one. The story jumps between the past and the present, but keeps you thoroughly engaged in both. As much as you want to skip ahead and keep reading about one timeline, you just as much want to keep reading about the other. It was hard to slow down my reading to make sure I got everything, I really wanted to see what happened next. The characters are relatable and engaging, you get attached to them and you want them to be alright. A great story of love, friendship, determination, and justice, I highly recommend it.
