I just finished reading this with my third grade son. It had a very Grimm's Fairy Tale feeling to it, in the fact that fantastical things just were that way, with no explanation as to why. You had to accept this world and its inhabitants for the way it was, and that was that. It was cute and amusing, but made very little sense. It also got a little wordy at times, and I found myself and my son losing interest. The drawings were well done and helped us visualize the story. It was ok, but I wouldn't buy it or read it again.

This series continues to be inventive, quirky, funny, and fun. And excellently written and wonderfully illustrated. Great family read-alouds, to boot.

Pretty adorable if you can roll with the ridiculous plot twists. Can you outrun a Kraken, out smart noodle-loving yetis, out maneuver traps from unsportsman-like competitors and still win a race with a bob sled team of pugs?

This is a delightful book! Funny, great illustrations, whimsical, diverse, and compelling, with silliness and poignant moments too. I read it in one sitting, and immediately decided I need to buy it for myself soon. Friends, Helga is SO GREAT. I really loved all of these characters so much.
