I've read it to the kids and we all enjoyed it. As good as more than a quarter of a century ago when I first read it!

The Big Friendly Giant was almost like my best friend in elementary school; I read this novel enough times to say we were much like close companions! I never got bored of this inventive, fun and intriguing book about a dream-catching giant and his fearsome brothers. At the witching hour, Sophie, a girl with insomnia looks out the window and sees a giant with a trumpet going from building to building to catch their dreams. Naturally, the sly giant can’t have any little girl tattling on his talent and grabs Sophie out of her room. Although initially Sophie is terrified, the BFG stays true to his name and the two become a duo to be reckoned with. There were so many meaningful messages in this story and I know some people are worried about the context, but it’s a children’s book for goodness sake! One of my favourite quotes deals with the BFG explaining that humans are the only animals that kill each other. The film adaptation lives up to expectations and is a great hit! Rating 4.5/5

I loved this story when I was younger. Re-reading it as an adult I enjoyed the language as much as when I was a child. Perhaps it was the time in which Dahl wrote the novel but I was disappointed by some of the characterizations: the Queen's maid is older, heavy-set and not very bright; only men are in the armed forces protecting the country; boys would not like a dream a girl would like and vice versa; when the Queen calls Baghdad and talks to the Sultan wondering if anything unpleasant had happened there overnight the reply is "We are chopping off people's heads like you are chopping parsley". *Gulp*! There are somethings I'd definitely not read to my niece as I would not wish to maintain stereotypes.

Sophie is a smart girl and is curious. The BFG snatches her in the witching hour. the BFG takes Sophie to his cave.there friendship grows.I have read this many times I think it is a phenomenal book.

Politically incorrect book? Debatable.
Imaginative? Oh, yes.
Mocked British armed forces? Of course! Author also sugarcoated Great Britain's waning military state by using helicopters instead of transport planes.
Surprised on Queen Elizabeth II more of a figurehead? Yep.
Author positive portrayal of head butler on how to feed BFG? Classic.
Subtle strategy on how the weaker defeated the stronger.
Highly recommended for kids & the kid at heart.
