Only for teens and youngsters who may not know whats actually good or bad for them. Organic is good but pricey - locally sourced better. Lots of teach with little heart or crunch.

Felt like a commercial for whole foods. When he says positive things about "organic" foods, and then does not defend that statement with science, I wonder why.

That said, people are stupid when it comes to food. His conclusion is: eat less, more veggies and fruits and forget processed food. Everyone already knows this... I mean you do... think about it. If you claim ignorance, it is simply because you don't want to stop eating what you know is bad for you, because you like it more than your health.

After reading a plethora of nutrition-related books, I really appreciated the objective of this DVD by Michael Pollan - to attempt to provide some simple guidelines to follow when making food choices. He distills the conclusions from his extensive nutritional research into seven words - "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." - and then explains the research and reasoning behind each.

I have family members (as do most Americans, I'm sure) who struggle with health problems that are related to our dietary choices, so I really appreciate someone taking the time to break down all the health and nutrition information that's out there, build some historical and social context for consumers, and then putting together what turns out to be a VERY simple message about how to make healthy eating choices:
Eat (real) food ... not too much ... MOSTLY plants.

I also love his coining of the phrase "edible food-like substances" as a reflection of all the over-processed, ultra-hyped food products on the market today. In our household, less than 24 hrs after watching this, we tweeked it to "Edible Like-Food Substances" or ELFS and it's already become a catch-phrase for the entire family.
