"The heartwarming story of how NCIS star Pauley Perrette and her two best friends created a Southern-style bake shop in Manhattan--a celebration of love and friendship with gorgeous photographs and delicious recipes. Nestled in the heart of midtown New York is a little shop with a big story. An all-natural bake shop that specializes in Southern baked goods, Donna Bell's is owned by Pauley Perrette, the actress who plays "Abby Scuito" on CBS's NCIS, and her two best friends, Darren Greenblatt and Matthew Sandusky. It was named in honor of Pauley's late mother, who is the beloved inspiration for everything they bake. It all started in 1993, when Pauley met Darren in New York City's Hell's Kitchen, just blocks away from where the shop is currently located. The two became inseparable friends and Pauley's Southern mom would welcome Darren to their home with mouthwatering treats. Darren loved this food and soon left his successful career in fashion to open a food truck that sold Southern desserts at the Jersey Shore. Eventually he wanted to expand and turned to Pauley and their friend Matthew--who worked in the Los Angeles food industry--for help. Soon Matthew was on his way to New York to open Donna Bell's Bake Shop with Pauley and Darren. With recipes for favorites like buttermilk biscuits, chocolate chip-almond scones, and peach streusel muffins; personal photographs from Pauley, Darren, Matthew, and Donna Bell herself; this is the story how one fantastic bake shop brings warmth and happiness--one treat at a time--to the urban jungle that is New York City"--Provided by publisher.

I absolutely LOVE NCIS!!!!!!!!! I adore the whole NCIS Team, but Abby is the best. I was so excited to find out that Pauley Perrette had this book. It was amazing to read about her childhood. My friends and I made the lemon bars and the strawberry shortcake with whipped cream. The cake tasted so good, but was a little lopsided and did not look quite like the cake on the front cover :-). The lemon bars were the best lemon bars I had ever tasted!!!!!! Thank you so much Pauley for inspiring me as Abby!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope to bake everything in the book and to visit Donna Bell's Bake Shop sometime in my life!!!!!! I love these recipes and stories!!! I rate this book 1,000,000,000,000/5 stars!

Comfort food is perfect for beating the February blahs, and there is no place on earth that has as much pride in its comfort food than the American South. Full of fat, gluten, dairy and other completely verboten ingredients, American Southern cooking may very well kill you, but you’ll die happy.

This particular guide to southern baking is the brain-child of 3 best friends who at found each other when their careers had not yet come to fruition, who stayed friends when their various careers – fashion designer, chef and actress – took them to the far corners of the States. And they have remained best friends through this joint venture based in New York City – a venture that brought baked goods from the Deep South to Hell’s Kitchen.

Donna Bell’s Bake Shop is named after the mother of one of its founders, Pauley Perrette, famous for her role as Abby Scuito on television’s NCIS. Donna Bell Perrette was a southern gal with a huge heart who accepted Pauley’s two friends into her family and kitchen. After she passed away from breast cancer, the terrific trio named their dream after her, and her brand of warmth radiates from the shop – one of the only shops to remain open through 2 hurricanes that battered the city, and a shop that opens its doors on Thanksgiving to people in the neighborhood.

The stories peppered throughout the cookbook are as warm and friendly as the treats – but it is the recipes that will have you warming up your own kitchen for the rest of the winter: apple-filled sweet biscuits with homemade caramel sauce; maple walnut pie bars; Southern cherry chess bars (I have no idea what those are but holy buttermilk they sound tasty); Champagne cake with strawberry buttercream frosting. Heave the diet out the frosty window for a time and heave a sigh of pure enjoyment instead!
