Caroline Jacobs has lost herself. She's a wife, mother (to a tattooed teenage daughter she avoids), Sears Portrait Studio photographer, and wimp. Asserting herself, taking the reins, or facing life head-on are not in her repertoire. So when Caroline suddenly cracks and screams "Fuck you!" at the PTA president, she is shocked. So is her husband. So is the PTA president. So is everyone. But Caroline soon realizes the true cause of her outburst can be traced back to something that happened to her as a teenager, a scarring betrayal by her best friend Emily. This act changed Caroline's life forever. So, with a little bit of bravery flowing through her veins, Caroline decides to go back to her home town and confront Emily. She busts her daughter Polly out of school, and the two set off to deliver the perfect comeback, which is twenty-five years in the making. But nothing goes as planned. Long buried secrets begin to rise to the surface, and Caroline will have to face much more than one old, bad best friend.

A heartwarming story told with Matthew Dicks' signature wit, The Perfect Comeback of Caroline Jacobs is a deceptively simple novel about the ways in which our childhood experiences reverberate through our lives, and the bravery of one woman trying to change her life and finds true understanding of her daughter, and herself, along the way.

It was an enjoyable book, and though I don't think it was outstanding it definetly had some parts where It inspired me, and it had some swear words if its a problem for some, but I Think it added to the Characters and the story it self.

A top ten read for me for 2016!

I truly did love "The Perfect Comeback of Caroline Jacobs." Somewhat quiet and introverted, Caroline has gone through life trying not to make too big of a splash. And then, one day, she just lets loose. She can't hold her frustration inside any longer. Ultimately, this sets her on the path to try to stand up to the former friend who hurt her several years before.

It's rare that a book can tackle somewhat serious issues and give you a few belly laughs in the process. Matthew Dicks' novel kind of reminded me of "Where'd You Go, Bernadette" in the blend of humor and pathos, though this book is a bit less quirky (e.g., there's no Antarctic adventure, but there is one heck of a road trip!) I love how this book examines how life's events shape us, and how, ultimately, it's up to us to choose the lives we want for ourselves.

Caroline Jacobs is happy to be a wallflower. She avoids conflict at all costs and is happy to bundle up any negative feelings and bury them deep inside her to stay there forever.

But then one day, during a PTA meeting, Caroline has had enough. She is sick of being stepped on, and she is tired of people treating her and people like her like doormats. So she yells at the prissy, passive-aggressive president. She says a 4-letter word. In front of the ENTIRE PTA.

Then, when Polly, her daughter, gets in trouble, Caroline snaps. She has some grudges she's been holding for a long time and she is ready to let the offenders know. Polly and Caroline head out on a whirlwind adventure to get rid of Caroline's demons.

"The Perfect Comeback of Caroline Jacobs" is a quick-paced book with many interesting characters: the angsty punk daughter Polly, the deacon husband Tom, the mother's blind boyfriend, Spartacus, and many more. The story flips effortlessly between the present and the past, weaving in the details in a way that makes you *need* to keep reading to figure out what happens next.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
