I'm sorry to anyone who likes this, I hate this.

Though the claymation was interesting, the plot was extremely violent/evil for what appeared to be a kid focused movie, but not develop or complex enough for adults. It was hard to invest in the story line or even really the characters. Some gaps exist like how Eggs learned to talk english, while no other troll did. As a whole, not recommended.

The regional British accents made some of the story difficult to follow. Animation was complex, fascinating for my 6 year old but too busy for my 4 year old.
I enjoyed the plot and the balance if good and bad in some characters. Overall a good family movie, but give the younger ones something to distract them during the violent scenes.

Beautiful animation and a truly clever plot, THE BOXTROLLS features one of my favourite villains in awhile. Villains always have a critical flaw, and the Snatcher's flaw is a doozy. (I wouldn't dare spoil it, though.) I feel that both THE BOXTROLLS and THE BOOK OF LIFE were genuinely great animated flicks that were overlooked this year because they lacked the big-studio marketing. I recommend both of these films (and, of course, THE LEGO MOVIE).

Fun movie!

The humor seemed for older individuals: 12 years and older. My 4-year old grandson liked looking at the DVD case but quickly lost interest.

I watched it myself. Though the animation technology was fascinating, I just couldn't get into it and I LOVE a "good" cartoon like the Croods! :)

As a grandmother and part-time nanny, I watch a lot of kids movies and enjoy some of them very much. This is a great film to watch with your kids; dramatic, hilarious, heartfelt! The work done on the animation is top notch and I am loving the innovations that animators are bringing to the screen these days.

I did not see this film, but I used the information on CommonSenseMedia to decide whether it was appropriate for my children. Here's what they CSM website says about Boxtrolls: "Parents need to know that while The Boxtrolls isn't quite as supernaturally creepy as the filmmakers' previous movies, Coraline and ParaNorman, it still has a lot of peril, tense moments, and a very unpleasant villain. Sympathetic characters are presumed dead at different points, a crying baby is carried away in the middle of the night, and the bad guy is bent on total extermination of the boxtrolls, painting them as bloodthirsty monsters, even though they're really peace-loving tinkerers. His extermination machine is loud, scary, fiery, and destructive, and he looks positively unhinged when he gets riled up. The movie may be animated (stop-motion), but it's really too intense for younger kids (especially when seen in 3-D). Characters are constantly in danger, whether from their own or others' actions, and there are some upsetting separations. One character has a significant food allergy that plays a key role in the plot; his reaction is very exaggerated, but it could strike a chord for kids and families who deal with allergies. There's not much in the way of language (one "oh my God"), but a character does wear a low-cut gown and fishnet stockings. All of that said, the movie offers a brave main character in the form of loyal, inventive Eggs, as well as positive messages about tolerance, family, standing up for yourself, and fighting for what's right."

Excellent example of stop motion animation, with sensitive art evocative of the Victorian period. The design of the film is commendable, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
