" #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense Harlan Coben delivers his most shocking thriller yet, proving that a well-placed lie can help build a wonderful life-- and a secret has the same explosive power to destroy it. The Stranger appears out of nowhere, perhaps in a bar, or a parking lot, or at the grocery store. His identity is unknown. His motives are unclear. His information is undeniable. Then he whispers a few words in your ear and disappears, leaving you picking up the pieces of your shattered world. Adam Price has a lot to lose: a comfortable marriage to a beautiful woman, two wonderful sons, and all the trappings of the American Dream: a big house, a good job, a seemingly perfect life. Then he runs into the Stranger. When he learns a devastating secret about his wife, Corinne, he confronts her, and the mirage of perfection disappears as if it never existed at all. Soon Adam finds himself tangled in something far darker than even Corinne's deception, and realizes that if he doesn't make exactly the right moves, the conspiracy he's stumbled into will not only ruin lives-it will end them"--Provided by publisher.

I can't say I've ever been disappointed in a Harlan Coben novel, but I wasn't a fan of this one really.....difference maybe being I didn't read it, I listened to the audio book (although the reader was good)....I just felt so frustrated throughout and then Adam suddenly had an epiphany which I found abrupt. Twisty, I guess (like all Harlan Coben books), but not my favourite for sure....

When Adam is approached by a stranger in a bar who tells him a devastating secret about his wife, he is mostly incredulous but suspicious. When he finds out the secret is true, his perfect wife leaves suddenly for “a few days” and we spend most of the book wondering where she is. Adam can’t really go to the police, as her most recent text says she needs some space for a brief time – so it looks like a voluntary separation. Meanwhile, a couple of other people learn dark secrets about their family life from the same stranger – and now we’re really hooked into how is he learning this stuff and what is he up to? Before it’s over, things do start to tie together; and when a lady cop from out of town befriends Adam, and helps try to find his wife, things finally resolve – but not in a way Hollywood might have done it. Throughout, the pages turn rapidly; and when we start taking the book with us everywhere, that means it’s a real pleaser.

A pretty good thriller-mystery, until the end. The big reveal was not as satisfying as its lead up. The ending wasn't bad, but there were not enough subtle hints at who the primary antagonist actually was. There was a lot of info on where the story leads you, but little scraps as far as who was really behind it all.

Not bad, but not great either.

Enjoyed it, but a few things bugged me about it. The ending was a surprise but not enjoyable.

One feels that the author is a smart guy. But this book it's not a literary work, more like a script for a movie, continuous dialogues... And his enthusiasm for sports, in particular, lacrosse, frankly - annoying. Also, the impression that if not for mobile phones, a crime would not be solved.

This was not one of his better books. Characterd could have been developed better. Too many simplistic discoveries. Weak ending.

Ok book. Too many characters that are not fully developed. Coben has some much better stuff than this.

This isn't one of Coben's better works. Adam's world is upside-down trying to find his wife - either a run-away fugitive or dead.

Very disappointing. The ending was a terrible display of amoral values in an individual and an entire community.
