Excellent acting and fairly accurate portrayal of an attempt to kill Nixon.

I never knew this had happened. I thought Sean Penn was excellent in his portrayal of a man trying to recapture his wife's love and affection, please his boss and act in a way that was against his beliefs, and blame the system for failing to live a life that promised the illusion of the American dream.
In a way I felt sorry for him because his mind was fractured, he was fragile and vulnerable and people really used him. Unfortunately many died because of him and instead of getting help, he was killed.

Inspired by a true story of Samuel Byck, who plotted to kill Richard Nixon in 1974, the film gives you a shock at the end.
I don't know if the last scene is also based on the real event.
In any case, the protagonist seems paranoid, and he doesn't really know exactly what to do even when he tries to hijack.
The plot to kill the president obviously failed because of both disintegration of his thinking and shortcut of his reasoning.
Anyway, Sean Penn's acting was so superb that he easily made me step into his shoes and I could sympasize with the protagonist.
After all, however, this is a mad story of a man with paranoia.

While the would be assassin seem to suffer OCD, he sounds too articulate & morally upright to question the integrity of society, than mental patient in desperate drive to kill people.
It's just incredible to believe, what people can do when they feel, they are cornered by the system.
Too bad, they harm to many people, & take too many innocent lives with them, before they end up dead.

sean penn does an excellent job of portraying a frustrated, mentally ill man. watch the movie then read the true story.
