The author is a Gwichya Gwich'in woman from Tsiigehtchic in the Northwest Territories. She is a mother, trapper, Canadian Ranger, business owner and student. At the age of seven, Julie-Ann was taken to a residential school and has since worked hard to recover her cultural practices and beliefs. The book's colourful photographs show her sharing this culture with her family.
