Billy has a lot to do before he goes to bed. He settles down finally with Teddy by his side. But then he hears a bump coming from his closet. What could it be? Billy imagines the worst possibilities. But out jumps a blue bumping bouncing bellowing monster. At first Billy was afraid. Then he was impressed. Then he woke up and realized the bump in the closet wasn't what he thought after all.

The illustrations are created with acrylic on wood. Hemingway uses a lot of dark blue to depict night time. They have a 3D cartoon feel to them. They are fun and kids will like them.

This book was interesting and different from other afraid of the dark stories. However, this book is advertised for ages 3-5. I think an actual scary monster coming out of the closet will not be helpful to the younger age group since they will not understand the irony and the fact that the story switches from an awake world to a dream world and back. I did like Billy's character and attitude. I would recommend this book to a slightly older age range of 5-8.

This is a great read along.
And it's perfects for taking the spook out of bed time.
My 4-year old loves reading "bump" on every page.
At the end of the book it breaks down the physical make up of a "Bump" and gives reasons for why you shouldn't be afraid.
