A poignant and engaging story, beautifully illustrated, about a poor Cambodian girl who uses an unexpected gift of running shoes to go to school. My daughter was fascinated by this story, and often "read" it to herself after we'd read it together several times, although she can't yet actually read. Simple enough for a pre-school age child (if you're comfortable with the mention of a father who has died), and interesting enough for a much older child.
