“The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds was published in 2003 and I am glad to say that this outstanding book is one of my favourite books to read since my childhood. When I was first introduced to this book I immediately felt a connection to it. It was because I went through a similar phase as Vashti went through. I believed I wasn't able to draw as good as my friends, but my parents encouraged me that I would be able to draw just as good as them if I just tried my hardest, and never gave up or lose hope. Sure enough, they were right, just like always. This is a very inspiring book and I recommend to anyone especially kids who are young enough to understand the meaning and learn the important lesson of empowerment. 5/5 rating.

Just a simple dot is able to inspire the creativity in all children. This is a small book with a "BIG" message. Check out and enjoy it's sequel "Ish".

The cover makes it look a little "precious" or cheesily inspirational, but The Dot is a solid classic about the way we see ourselves and the art we make. Vashti, who says she can't draw, is shown in a breathtakingly simple and kind way by her art teacher that she can. She passes the lesson on.

How a little girl is empowered.

A short, little story that is very heartwarming. Inspirational, with a little backwards psychology -used in a good way.
