U-boat Hunter – This was a very well written book about what life would have been like for a young boy serving in the Royal Navy on a small escort vessel during WW II. In particular, this book would appeal to any young person age 10 through perhaps age 16. The Historical Note and Timeline at the end of the book were particularly informative. During the Battle of the Atlantic, 3,843 Allied merchant ships were lost along with approximately 30,000 British merchant seamen against 785 U-boats sunk with 32,000 men listed as killed or missing. U-boat Hunter – Peter Rogers, HMS Arum, 1939 -1945 – My Story Series. While this is a delightful teen rated historical fiction about the life of Peter Rogers, it certainly would appeal to older juvenile readers as well. Peter is a young signalman on the HMS Arum, an escort ship to convoys and a submarine hunter. Excellent book; five stars! Doctor-at-Bass! T. A.
