To the viewer of 2014 this seems very dated. Seeing now familiar faces at maturity, it's an odd feeling to see them in youth. Costumes are fantastic. Little wonder the English royalty has been seen as silly frippery.
preferred the book which has more depth and less sensationalism, but the costumes are beautiful
Very Good. Love the English and Irish History. Wonderful Costumes and acting.
This is a six part mini-series that I really enjoyed. However, as a few other reviewers have noted, it has one big flaw beginning at the end of the fifth episode - they changed all the lead actors to show them much older. I found this very jarring and confusing. I was absorbed in the story up until this point. The change of actors caused me to jump out of the story as I kept trying to figure out who was who. It really made the last episode hard to follow. Still, all- in-all the majority of the series is good and worth watching if you like period pieces that are more literary and true-to-form than Downton Abbey.
An epic tale that doesn't plod along. A great, and unusual for the times, portrayal of strong women.
loved it. i can't wait to read the book
I enjoyed this story of 4 sisters with their class struggles and the ever popular struggle of love vs. duty. Like Michikobud, I found the abrupt change of actors a bit hard to follow at first. Over all, a good watch if you enjoy historical dramas.
A nice story with twists and turns. The only bit of confusion for myself is figuring out "who is who" when they change actors as the characters age.
Beautifully capturing the times and fashions, this film covers the true life story of four sisters whose modern sensibilities force their contemporaries to accept the triumphs and foibles of their lives.
