This movie was one rolling hot mess. The written dialogue should have been good (it's adapted from an Oscar Wilde play - this is the man whose last words were "either the wallpaper goes, or I do," for crying out loud). So it's hard to know what happened here - I'm betting some kind of a... Read More »

Rated 6/10. This turned out better than I thought it might. Nice twist at the end. Helen Hunt did a good job in her role.

Besides the terrible, sinful clothes, it was a great movie, one of Scarlett Johansson best. Recommended.

Lots of droll one-liners, fashionable hats, Tom Wilkinson smiling broadly at the end. Helen Hunt seems to be intoning the same sentence over & over, no matter what's going on or what she's saying. But you feel like you're on vacation, & that's nice, a very cool period piece. For the subject matter I think they could have shown a little more sweat & ruffles (this is an Oscar Wilde picture that's rated PG?), because by the end you don't really understand what's transpired between people exactly, & all the emotional turmoil & subsequent reveals don't make any sense. But that's not a reason not to watch it...! You like Italy, don't you? Watch it. CR

Witty dialogue, good cast, minimalist acting - pretty good movie.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. The mood is very 1930's and quite authentic. The Amalfi coast is a good place to retreat for the season; gossips; parties; romantic entanglements; and an unknown seductress added to the mix. Great performances. I especially liked Helen Hunt's role.

A light-hearted romantic comedy involving a lady of pleasure, wealthy men of various ages, a playboy, and a young , American woman in love in the time period of 1930. Some of the dialogues are fairly well written, and humorous. The happy ending is totally expected but still provides a decent closing. The cast and location of shoot, in Italy, are pretty good too.

A Good Woman has done nothing to convince me that Helen Hunt and Scarlett Johansson can act.

Tom Wilkinson is the only redeeming feature (and perhaps some of the scenery) of this film.

Don't bother
