A good starting point for the fantasy of manners genre ie. a fantasy that downplays warfare/magic. This series is to a lesser extent and is written very well.

Picked this book up totally at random at the library. It was amazing and I don't know why. Series of 3 and read them in a few weeks. The characters are overly simple but just something about the way she writes is very gripping.
