This is the best Christmas-y story I've encountered as an adult. Dylan Thomas's writing is beautiful and captivating for all ages. I'd highly recommend reading and then also finding an audio recording online of Thomas reciting the tale. It's hard to pick a favorite part, but here is one as a teaser:

"...snow grew overnight on the roofs of the houses like a pure and grandfather moss, minutely ivied the walls and settled on the postman, opening the gate, like a dumb, numb thunderstorm of white, torn Christmas cards."
