This is the kind of book you want to have 9 hours to yourself to listen or read. The journey through time is exquisite.

At first I couldn't get into this book. As much as I love short stories I struggled with the first few glimpses into the house. I felt like I was being tugged away before I was ready. But as I kept reading, the book just swallowed me up until I became the house, enduring the secrets of so many lives. The saturation of magic realism, at times constrictive and weighty, eventually lured me in and weakened my doubts.

Not Hoffman's best. Felt a little melancholic to me. The Red Garden and The Story Sisters were both so enjoyable and in reading other titles by this author I've been less impressed.
