Set during the 1860's gold rush in New Zealand, a newly married couple from England struggles to stake out a new life as farmers in a harsh, untamed land. When Joseph finds a tiny amount of gold dust in their creek, he becomes obsessed and greedy, leaves his family and boards a ship to seek his fortune in the gold mines. This is as much an adventure story as it is a love story, with characters and a landscape that feel so real they will stay with you for a long time.
