Get ready for one of Kinsey Millhone's "wildest adventures yet" ( San Francisco Examiner ) from #1 New York Times bestselling author Sue Grafton

Kinsey's skills are about to be sorely tested. She is about to meet her duplicitous match in a couple of world-class prevaricators who quite literally take her for the ride of her life.

"L" Is for Lawless : Call it Kinsey Millhone in bad company. Call it a mystery without a murder, a treasure hunt without a map, a quest novel with truly mixed-up motives. Call it the return of Kinsey as bad girl-- quick-witted and quicksilvery, smart-mouthed and smart-alecky-- poking her nose into everyone's dirty laundry as she joins up with a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde in an Our Gang comedy that will take her halfway across the country and leave her with a major headache and an empty bank balance.

America's favorite borderline delinquent is back with her one-liners on tap and her energy level on high, romping through her fastest and funniest adventure in this, her twelfth foray into the alphabet of crime.

A plus.

Okay story, not much of a case or mystery.
Henry asks Kinsey to help some neighbours file a benefits claim for a deceased vet…seems simple enough.
Kinsey tries to help out, and gets sucked into the mystery…was the vet really a vet? Who keeps breaking into his old apartment? Why was he so paranoid in life? Why is she helping people she doesn't really like? It's fun watching her incrementally get sucked in more and more, so natural. And then she's off toDallas, following a man and woman who robbed the apartment.
The story reads more like a treasure hunt than a mystery or a case. It's not terrible, but it's not really a mystery, and most of the main characters lie every time they open their mouth, with none of the stories being particularly interesting.
I received no compensation, not even a free copy, in exchange for this review. I am not personal friends with the author, nor do I follow her on social media.

This book seemed to have ended rather abruptly. The author just briefly covered several things, which all could have used more explanation to sort of "wind up the loose ends." Maybe she will explain more in her next novel. The story itself was good.

A friend of Kinsey's landlord died, and Kinsey is asked to help find his veteran's papers so that he can have a military burial. She begins a search which takes her to a hotel in Dallas, where she tries to find the mysterious duffel bag filled with money. Humour and danger are mixed in this adventure. It's not as good as her best, but it is still entertaining.

The book didn't pick up until about mid way through. Didn't like the ending too much. I'm going to try reading another one from the series and see how it goes.
