This book was too confusing to read. I was really trying to get into it but it was too hard to focus on and you get so confused because the author doesn't explain anything well.

Don't you love it when science fiction accurately predicts the real future? Global pandemic, check. Long lasting side effects, check. A small group of people making a fortune off the suffering of others, check. Protests, murders, evil…

Looking for something Murderbot-adjacent? This is worth a try. It's a little extra spicy right now due to the fact that the book is about the results of a pandemic, but that only adds some interesting food for thought. Scalzi is always an…

This book was great! Intelligent, funny, entertaining and timely. A sci-fi story with humour, classism, politics, mystery and great characters. I couldn't put it down!

Murderbot meets Ironman. For the squeamish this dives more into the social and legal effects after a pandemic, little discussion of the illness itself. The latest addition to the FBI fights crime in a robot body. Pretty good.

Scalzi channels Phillip K. Dick and Isaac Asimov for an exciting sci-fi detective novel that doesn't feel nearly as short as it is. Great characters, good dialogue, and a fascinating world are all fun to be with while the ride lasts. Bonus…

If you saw/read The Surrogates, this book has a lot of similarities. In Surrogates, people used "robots" to walk around because the world was dangerous, and they could pilot the robots in the safety of their own home. They didn't do it out…

A world where a virus causes brain alterations to those affected, the solution is to allow their consciousness to control robot bodies and bodies of those not affected. Combine this with an FBI investigating and it's a pretty good story!

A wonderful mash-up between a police procedural and a good sci-fi novel, John Scalzi provides a well paced thriller about the near future where folks suffer from Haden's disease where they are locked into their bodies. With the use of…

Not sci-fi, but a detective procedural from the near future with sci-fi like confusing technology that Scalzi explains as the story progresses. Hard core sci-fi buffs may be dissapointed, but the book is a lovely different take for…

This book is so-so. Scalzi is very good at world building. The state of the world in this novel is very interesting and raises deep questions about what exactly it means to be human. However, that's as much praise as I can give it. He…

Really good writing. A lot of frustrating, bothersome and stupidly thought out details.

A police procedual by way of speculative fiction, think of this as something Dashiel Hammet might have written if he lived in the year 2025. Using technology that is just out of reach, Scalzi gives us a classic whodunnit featuring an FBI…

Lock In is a fast paced mystery, steeped in speculative (but not entirely outlandish) science fiction. The story is reminiscent of, but arguably easier to read than a Philip Dick cautionary tale. Though the final act is perhaps the…

This is a fast-paced science-fiction murder mystery - complicated by the fact that, in this future, people can remotely pilot other people's bodies to have them commit crimes. A neat story, that falls a bit short in terms of actually…

A detective story told in a society with robot avatars. The environment is as interesting as the plot. It left me wondering about what else could happen in this interesting world. I enjoyed the book and found the story picked up well…

Interesting book! Crimes committed by people who are under the control of others. Are they who they say they are? And who is ultimately responsible?

Agreed! @augsburgerin I was intrigued right away by the mystery, and it was a well put together police procedural. Also enjoyed the humour.

A very interesting premise and a satisfying mystery.

Scalzi is amazing. If you like his style, especially "Redshirts" and "The Human Division", this novel is for you. Let's hope Vann and Shane come back to solve another mystery using threeps and other Haden devices. Great stuff.

Such a great and engrossing mind-trip/thrill ride you don't even notice some of the major contrivances until well after you've motored through reading it in 2 days. Top notch for the genre, or any genre.

I really, really enjoyed this. It's a great sci-fi/tech novel (a lot there maybe for the non computer/coder inclined but I think it's all explained really well), a mystery/thriller/police procedural (murder! conspiracy! justice!), and…

Entertaining blend of science fiction and police procedural, with Scalzi's trademark humor. Thoroughly enjoyable -- and also terrifying.
