It has a bit more misogyny than I was prepared for at the time but I don’t know that it’s an unusual amount for this genre. There is a lot of objectification of women done by characters and the author right at the start and I just couldn’t make it through that part. Maybe it gets better later in the novel? It has a bit more misogyny than I was prepared for at the time but I don’t know that it’s an unusual amount for this genre. Fantastic read but it felt like half a story. There were only 3 of the 18 women in this book were women of color. I had mistakenly assumed the book might talk about some of the under recognized women of color in literary history, but the focus was mostly on the "classics" discussed in high school English classes. Still a great and inspiring book though! I had quite a few books I needed to check out by the time I was done with it!Fantastic read but it felt like half a story. If you get past the toxic relationship red flags then it's quite cute and enjoyable! You just have to plug your ears a bit for some of the details.

This was a really nostalgic read. It's a little silly but it's no less entertaining! This novel really added a whole new level to my understanding of what happened during Twilight. By the end I had a greater understanding of the Vampire world, Edward's struggle and dangers that were maybe only hinted at in Twilight. Definitely give this book a try if you are a Twilight fan. This was a really nostalgic read. It's a little silly but it's no less entertaining! - My life was an unending, unchanging midnight. It must, by necessity, always be midnight for me. So how was it possible that the sun was rising now, in the middle of my midnight?

This is probably one of the only smutty books I've read that showed true emotional depth.

A little cheesy but who doesn't love a fun story about quirky characters and ghosts?

The smut wasn't that good and neither was the storyline. I got bored and couldn't finish the last 23% of the book. 23%! I was almost done.... I was over three quarters of the way through it!

Banks does a wonderful job making gripping female characters. I truly fell in love with Genevieve, and I don't think there was a moment where Banks did her any injustice. It was a cheesy but beautiful novel. My only critiques would be that the romance part felt a little rushed, Bowen didn't have much of a personality, and that it's never good to use the trope where trauma is cured by romance. Other than those three points, it was a fantastic read. I would absolutely recommend this book if you're looking for something with a happy ending.Banks does a wonderful job making gripping female characters. This is the first time in a long time since I've come across a well written romance novel. It wasn't just the romance that was compelling either, it was the characters, the world, the stories they had to tell. I really couldn't put this one down.

I didn't expect to find Oliva to be such an inspiring character, I'm glad we got to know her better in this novel. However, the rest of the work just didn't do her much credit. It hardly felt like a real story at all--more like someone used a basic template of a love story, and threw Olivia into the middle of it. James was such a flat character, he might as well have been wallpaper. One second he finds her annoying, the next second he is in love with her...there was no build really. It would have been a completely frustrating and disappointing experience if it had not been for the fact that Oliva was like a breath of fresh air compared to the usual romance heroines.

- The import of what she'd done was sinking in. She's kissed her employer, who happened to be a duke and the man she'd tried to extort money from.

Compelling characters, natural storyline progress and realistic depictions of anxiety: my kind of book. My only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed and a little weak. The writing was fine, but this is by far the most disappointing character Hoyt has ever written about. Emeline is immediately described as a clever woman, however Hoyt fails to see that trait through for the rest of the novel. She is repeatedly humiliated by Sam, the Hero of this novel, in all of their verbal battles. It really doesn't make sense that Sam considers her a clever woman when he continuously lashes her in all their conversations. Emeline is always a step behind Sam and is seemingly fated to just follow his lead for every chapter of this novel. To be honest I couldn't get passed the halfway-point. Emeline was just not the strong character I was used to from Hoyt and I was terribly disappointed. The writing was fine, but this is by far the most disappointing character Hoyt has ever written about. I will keep this brief. Really great sex scenes, Alistair says the sexiest things. My two complaints are: they say some pretty messed up stuff about Native American culture and the ending was super weak--happy, but weak.

Honestly...I couldn't even make it past the first 20 pages. The writing was just SO CHEESY, and they were pushing the cowboy imagery hard enough that it felt super disingenuous. Not only that, but when I picked up this novel I was hoping for diversity since our female love-interest had a disability. That is not exactly what I was met with. Yes, she was in a wheelchair, but this woman was so smoking hot and perfect that it felt more like the writer was telling me that you need to be a goddess in human flesh if you want to find love with a disability. It just felt wrong.
Keep in mind I didn't read the past the first 20 pages though, so I could be wrong. Maybe there ends up being more to her than just a really hot babe who also is in a wheelchair. The first 20 pages were just so bad though...maybe one of you is strong enough to make it further than me!
(I gave it 1.5 stars because I was trying to be optimistic...maybe the rest of the book isn't so bad?)Honestly...I couldn't even make it past the first 20 pages. The sex scenes were pretty great, but to be honest not much happens in this book. The relationship also seems to happen a little too fast to feel natural. I do wanna defend it a bit though, since it is one of the few books that explores not only a female domme dynamic, but one that relies heavily on humiliation and degradation. I am glad I found this book, even if the material outside of the sex was a little lacking. The sex scenes were pretty great, but to be honest not much happens in this book.
